Show Seniors Gain Numerous Avian's In Ceremonies He re This Week Two Awards Programs were given earlier this week for members of the Grand County Coun-ty High School student body, en Monday morning 135 awards were presented which included 30 in academic academ-ic areas, 17 in music and drama, and 88 in aihlerics. On Monday evening 136 awards aw-ards were presented which included CO departmental, 3 ath'etic, 22 leadership, arid 21 scholarship awards. The departmental awards were given by each deparl-ment deparl-ment in the school recognition recog-nition of outstanding achievement achieve-ment by students in the various var-ious areas. These awards were presented in the form of certificates, placqucs, trophies, tro-phies, charms, and pins to the recipients. Special leadership awards were presented to: Kim Mc-Dougald, Mc-Dougald, from the High School Publications Workshop in Logan, Utah; Marcia Lea received the Bausch and Lomb Science Award; Marcia Lea and Daniel Robinson, receiving re-ceiving the "I Dare You" Awards from Danforth; Marcia Mar-cia Lea, the JESSI Summer School award; Bryon Walston the CASSI Summer School award; and Ginger Winder and Larry Campbell, special Journalism Summer School Awards, donated by Th.i Times-Independent and the Yearbok staff at the hign school. The Reader's Digest Awards went to the Valedictorians, Valedic-torians, Marcia Lea and Paul Mobley, and Mary Keogh received re-ceived the $75 Leadership Award from the Moab Elks Club. Scholarships were presented present-ed from Southern Utah State College to Lennie Walter-scheid; Walter-scheid; Utah State University Univer-sity to Marcia Lea, David Adkison and Paul Mobley; Brigham Young University, to Tony Martineau; Utah Technical College to Richard Holder and Randy Squires; University of Utah to Paul Mobley; Rotary Club to Richard Ri-chard Holder and David Adkison; Ad-kison; Plateau Hardware, to David Adkison; Business and Professional Women to Gemie Johnson; Elks Auxiliary Nursing Nur-sing to Cathy Winfield; Texas Tex-as Gulf, Inc. to Paul Mobley; and Grand Educators to Kathy McNeely. The last scholarship was presented to Mrs. McNeely at a banquet held by members of th3 Grand Education Association. Highlighting the program were the Block "G" Awards presented to two seniors named by the faculty as the outstanding boy and girl of the class. These went to Daniel Robinson and Mary Keogh. Two other Block "G" . Awards were given to Valedictorians. Vale-dictorians. Mr. Val Maughan, Senior Class Sponsor, presented a "small" certificate to next year's student body president, Larry Campbell, officially giving the new refrigerated drinking fountain to the school, which was donated by the 1972 seniors. A good deal of reference was1 made throughout the evening to the 18 trophies which were earned through various athletic and academic academ-ic departments during the year. Coach Glen Richeson presented the latest addition to the trophy case, that of the State Championship in Golf, to the Principal during the program. The other trophies tro-phies were presented during the mern.ng assembly. Earning the Playmaker Award for basketball, as voted on by members of the team, was Lennie Walter- scheid, and the athletic department de-partment recognized ' Daniel Robinson as the Outstanding Sen.or Athlete of 1972. Recognition was given to the three boys, Ross Newman, Daniel Robinson and Jon Boyden who walked away with the state honors in the Inquiring Editor Program, and he girls who competed with them earlier in the year were also recognized with plucques proviided by the Sa!t Lane Tr.bune and KUTV.
