Show Oil anoJGas Lease Sales Dominate Utah Scene Two major, oil and gas lease sales coming up high-,' light this week's activity in ' Utah according to Carlton Stowe, staff' specialist, Utah Geological Survey. He notes that the Utah Department of Natural Resources, through the State Land Office, is offering of-fering oil and gas leases on 65 tracts containing a fotal of 28,590 acres. Oil and gas operators who have submitted submit-ted sealed bids on the tracts will learn of the results when the State Land Office opens the bids Tuesday, May 30. Lands listed are within 10 counties with the heaviest concentration, a total of 28 tracts, in San Juan County. Twelve are listed in Garfield County and 10 in Uintah County. Sealed bids will also be received until June 13 and opened at that time by the Uintah and Ouray Indian Agency in Fort Duchesne ony 66 tracts of tribal land containing con-taining 33,516 acres and 17 tracts of allotted land con. taining 1882 acres. The lands are on the Ute Indian Reservation in Duchesne and Uintah Counties. A large number of the tracts offered are in the vicinity of the Duchesne Du-chesne oil field. Fifty-two wells have been drilled this year in Utah, compared to 32 at this tima a year ago. Of these, 31 havo been exploratory wells, about 10 ahead of this time last year. Drilling efforts are big in the Uinta Basin throughout the Altamont-Bluebell area as well as increased activity in Grand and San Juan Counties. |
