Show Honksville News Notes Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Teasdale Ward Chapel for prominent Wayne County leader, Carlyle Baker, who died at his home March 6, of a heart attack. Carlyle operated a 1300 acre ranch in Garfield and Wayne County and received the Distinguished Utah Cattleman of the year Award in 1974. He served many years as a member of the Wayne County Commission and was a member mem-ber of the Bureau of Land Management Advisory Board. He pioneered the cross breeding breed-ing of Brahma and Hereford Cattle. He was born Sept. 14, 1909 in Escalante to Eugene Hay-ward Hay-ward and Rhonda Cottom Baker. He married Berniece Coombs April 8, 1933. He is survivied by his widow and daughter, Mrs. Finley (Lorraine) (Lor-raine) Milne, Bloomfield Hills, ' Michigan; sons, Dr. Rodney C. Baker, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; Stanford C. Baker, Salt Lake City; five grandchildren, and his sister, Mrs. Rex (Monty) Nielsen, Othello, Washington. Graveside services were held Saturday at the American Fork City Cemetary for George L. Hoskings, a resident of Cainsville who died Tuesday, March 9, in the Richfield Hospital from pneumonia. George has farmed in Cainsville Cains-ville for many years and his prize vegetables were award winners. He could grow anything it seemed as he had beautiful plants and trees about his home. Poultry also was a hobby and he'd surprise children with multi-colored eggs at Easter from his South American chickens. He was born April 15, 1913 at Bingham Canyon to Thomas and Lillie Whitney Hoskings. Married and divorced and a member of the LDS Church. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Emmett Hansen, Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove. Nathan Christian Peterson was blessed Sunday March 7. He is the month old son of Jack and Christie Peterson of Cainsville. A dinner at the Peterson home followed with 31 in attendance. They included includ-ed Hope Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Harris, grandparents from Springville; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bastain and children, Green River; Mr. and Mrs. Terry Jackson and family. Hope Miller has returned to Shoot-A-Ring to work after a lengthy trip into Arizona. Mr. and Mrs. Kent Johnson, John-son, Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson, Mrs. Gloria Martin, and Mr. and Mrs. Kay Erickson are in Salt Lake this week visiting Mrs. Merintha Johnson who's a patient at the University of Utah Medical Clinic. Mrs. Clella Ekker took her mother to Payson Friday and stopped and visited her daughter, Connie Hoggatt and family in Carbonville on her return home. Steven and Carolyn Hatch, Steve and Connie Rasmussen, Stoney and Charlene Bert left Friday for a four day 'sight seeing' trip into the San Juan area. Adams Studio, Richfield, came and took school pictures Wednesday. Pre-schoolers and adults also had photos taken. La Mont Ekker and Keven Hatch met Bert May in Green River Friday and they went on to Logan. They will locate an apartment for residence when they begin spring quarter at USU. Their plans also include a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Rowdell Whitby and to attend the Olivia-Newton-John concert con-cert also in Logan. Mr. and Mrs. Terry Hunt and children stopped and visited the Ben Paces enroute home to Loa after a trip to Denver. I |
