Moab hosted the rest of District VII and Troops from Helper, Wellington, Price, Montezuma Creek and Bluff were here. We were so busy this year no one had time to count people, but around 200 in attendance along with our Council President Presi-dent Nancy Jane Bales and her husband, Howard, and First Vice President Betty Rider and her husband, Wayne. District VII Field Advisor from Price, Jan Oliveto, had all kinds of chores and Carbon Neighbor- hood Chairman Betty Butler from Price kept us all on our toes. Merchants of Moab we would like to thank for donating prizes were: City Market, Canyonlands Auto, Gambles, Moab Lumber, Walker Wal-ker Drug, Millers Supermarket, Supermark-et, Royce's Electronics, Miller's Mil-ler's Clothing, Family Drug and Ray Lewis. We do not have a complete list of judges who helped all during the day but is was around 30 adults and we would like to thank all of them for their time. One sponsoring group, Business and Professional Profes-sional Women, had"3 women help out, Joan Lish, Judy Marshall, and Nellie Beyler. One family, mother, father, and son were judging, Barbara I and Milt Walston and Boy Scout son Jeff spent lots of hectic hours with us. Boy Scout Leaders Clay Atwood, LeRoy Walker and Boy Scouts Lynn Atwood, Jeff Walston, David Irish and Archie Walker spent the day judging various events. Winners were: Brownies a tie for the 1st with Troop 329, leader Margaret Webb and Troop 570, leader Iris Young from Moab leading and Troop 203 from Price, Larraine Can-Leader, Can-Leader, 2nd place; Junior winners win-ners 1st place-Troop 462 from Bluff, leader Dorothy Tousley, 2nd place-Moab Troop 617 leader Diane Norman; Ca-dettes Ca-dettes from Price Troop 555, Mary Kessler leader were 1st with Moab Troop 110, 2nd place, leader Joan Gough; Moab Seniors took 1st place, leader Shirley Shelton and Senior Troop 210 from Price, 2nd place. During the morning we had as high as 15 teams going at once but 2 p.m. saw everyone watching the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in tlje most exciting event of the day, lashing poles and then a fast chariot race. Three Senior girls from Moab Troop 190, Judy Lawton, Marilyn Shelton, and Mary Winfield were 1st place winners with Boy Scout Troop 802 from the 4th Ward coming in second. The boys were only 1 point behind the girls and were awarded 100 feet of rope for their losing prize and we hear they are already practicing practic-ing for a re-match. The boys just didn't want to give up and challenged leaders Clay Atwood, At-wood, LeRoy Walker and Robin Henningson to a race and again came in second. This particular event was not scheduled but was thoroughly .enjoyed by all. Royce's Electronics set up the microphones for the speaker system. Our thanks also to Georgia Hamblin as our photographer, Announcer Ron Turner, Patches Patch-es and Score Keeper, and Danny Winfield. The biggest hand of all goes to Else Daniels and her assistant Diane Norman who put the thing all together and until you have worked on Skills Day putting it together you can't imagine the hours of work it took Else and Diane. While they were at it they managed to get one of our "older" Girl Scouters back helping us. Teresa Posey known to Scouters Scout-ers as "Trish" helpei get judges for the day. The problems wc had in 1974 ran very smoothly this year but all kinds of other problems arrived and we already have some of them solved and are talking about Skills Day for 1978. Leaders are you wilh us? |
