The request for continued permission to dispose dis-pose of garbage at the local dump by burning was made to cemain in the good graces of authorities while alternatives in garbage disposal are being studied. Sanitarv land fill and shred der methods of garbage disposal have been studied by the Moab City Council over a several-year period, however it is reported that serious problems have been encountered encoun-tered when these methods were considered. Canyonlatuls National Park Superintendent Pete Parry ' announced recently that if something is not started soon to bring waste-disposal practices prac-tices locally into conformance with regulations $5b,000 earmarked ear-marked by the National Park Service for that purpose will be withdrawn. Several meetings have been held between Moab City, Grand County, San Juan County, NPS, Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service Ser-vice officials to study the possibilities of jointly constructing const-ructing and using a waste-disposal waste-disposal facility. No conclusions conclus-ions have yet been reached. |
