Show GOP Officers Replaced After Resignations Received A business meeting of the Grand County Republican Party was held Monday, Aug. 14, at the Courthouse. The Central Committee accepted ac-cepted the resignation of Judy Nelson Vice Chairwoman Chair-woman and of Norma Stocks as Secretary of the Republican Republi-can Party. Both listed their reasons for resigning : Mrs. Nelson stated: At the time she was appointed Vice Chairwoman, no one else at the meeting would consent to the job so she was more or less "railroaded" into taking the position. She knew nothing noth-ing about her resposibilitjes nor anything about politics. Since Chairman Bob Dalton is also relatively new in this area, she felt he could get more help from a Vice Chairwoman Chair-woman who was better acquainted ac-quainted with the people of Grand County and if she was to resign it would give the party a chance to appoint someone who could be of mere help to the Party. She stated that sh ewas very willing wil-ling to work for the Republican Repub-lican Party in any other way she can but felt for the best interests of the Party her resignation should be accepted. ac-cepted. "Appointees may not serve as delegate or committeeman. committee-man. No holder of a salaried salar-ied position, other than an office filled by the voters, shall be a delegate to a convention con-vention that nominates the officers under whom he, directly di-rectly or indirectly, holds such position, nor shall he be a member of a party committee com-mittee for the state, district or municipality by which he is employed." Utah State Election Law. Mrs. Stocks said "At the time I accepted this nomination nomin-ation at the County Convention Conven-tion in August of 1971, I did not know because of my employment, em-ployment, I could not serve in this capacity. After I read this law in the Election Laws I still thought because my boss, the Canity Assessor, was not running during this period of time when I was to serve, that I could still hold a position on the Republican Re-publican Committee. Since a County Commissioner runs for election each year no one working for the County or State can serve on a committee commit-tee or be a delegate or bo active in any political job. Since pressure has been brought to bear on the Republican Re-publican Party and since I get an interpretation of this law, I feel I should resign from this office. I have enjoyed en-joyed working for the party and I regret it was necessary for me to resign as Secretary Secre-tary of the Grand County Republican Party." Ha Corbin accepted the appointment ap-pointment as the new Vice Chairwoman of the Republican Republi-can Party. Mary Byrd will be the new Secretary. These two will round out the Executive Committee of the Central Committee with Chairman Bob Dalton and Treasurer Dick Hammer. Another meeting will be held in the near future to organize committees for fund raising and campaign work. |
