Show , ' ' I l.n ,ii urn n itt -if Penny Martin Moab exchange student travels to Phillipines Penny Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Martin who recently moved to Spanish Valley from 483 Taylor, has been chosen by Rotary International Inter-national District 502 to spend a year in Doilo City, Phillipines. Philli-pines. Penny will be graduating in absentia from Grand County High School in 1978. She has been the school photographer for the past 2 years on the yearbook staff, a member of the Pep Club and the volleyball volley-ball team. She also played volleyball and softball for the city league and has been on the high honor roll with a 3.8 grade average. A member of the Community Communi-ty Baptist Church, Penny has been employed by Tastee Freeze, Pizza Hut, and recently recent-ly as hostess and desk clerk at the Ramada Inn. An active Girl Scout for the past 8 years, as a Senior Girl Scout, Penny was an assistant Brownie leader, a member of the Service team, and craft director for core camp. She has had some traveling experience exper-ience with Girl Scouts, spending spend-ing 18 days on a trip to the east coast several years ago and more recently a month with the Seniors from Moab and Price on a trip to Mexico where she visited the international interna-tional Girl Guide-Girl Scout Center "Our Cabana" in Cuer-navaca, Cuer-navaca, Mexico. Penny will be leaving on Thursday, Oct. 27. 5:30 p.m. from Salt Lake Internationa Airport and will fly to San Francisco, from there to Tokyo Tok-yo and on to Manila for a 10 hour lay-over before boarding on a smaller flight to the island of Doilo in the Phillipines. Philli-pines. She just received her destination last week and has not yet heard from her host family but a trip to the library revealed the island to be 60 x 100 miles, is in the Panay Gulf which opens into the Sulu Sea. The language she will speak is Spanish.
