Show Energy conservation workshops slated for city-county leaders City and county leaders from throughout the State will be attending regional energy conservation workshops work-shops to be held this month. Displays and multi-media presentations pre-sentations of various energy conservation measures will familiarize the leaders with what can be done to reduce energy consumption in then-homes then-homes and communities. "The workshops are intended in-tended to acquaint local government gov-ernment officials and civic leaders with new energy conservation con-servation techniques and explain ex-plain what the State is doing in the field," according to Clifford Collings, State Energy Ener-gy Conservation Coordinator. The eight regional meetings will cover the new Energy Conservation Building Code, the comprehensive State Energy En-ergy Conservation Plan, and energy cost reduction programs pro-grams for buildings. "An essential part of any energy cost reduction program pro-gram is the energy audit," says Jack Lyman, State Energy Ener-gy Conservation Specialist. 'The audit will determine where energy is used, what measures might reduce the usage, and the associated costs and benefits." Mr. Lyman Ly-man will explain how the State intends to encourage energy cost reduction programs pro-grams and energy audits in every large building in the State and how they may be conducted. Dr. Arthur Jones, State Energy Conservation Engineer, Engi-neer, will discuss the Energy Conservation Code for New Building Construction which is to go into effect January 1, 1978. The code includes energy ener-gy conservation requirements for all new construction as well as renovations of buildings build-ings over 5000 square feet. Other participants in the workshop are Dr. William F. Farnsworth, Staff Development Develop-ment and Energy Program Leader, Utah State University Universi-ty Extension Service, and Douglas Thompson, Informa- Nelson, 588 Kane Crk. The goal of the State's energy conservation plan is to reduce the consumption of energy in the State by 5 percent in 1980 compared to what it would have been if the plan hadn't been in effect. Included in the plan are a waste oil recycling program which could reclaim a significant signif-icant amount of energy annually annu-ally and consumer education programs such as the "Home Energy Savers' Workbook" which was distributed all over the State this year. A critical part of the plan involving education and interaction with industry in the State will probably bring the greatest savings. The workshops are designed design-ed to stimulate local input for the energy conservation plan. Developed through the State Energy Office, the plan provides pro-vides for annual revisions and periodic update to keep the plan current with the State's needs and the most recent technologies. The schedule for the workshops work-shops is: Vernal, Oct. 14; Provo, Oct. 17; Price, Oct. 18; Richfield, Oct. 19; Cedar City, Oct. 20; Salt Lake City, Oct. 25; Ogden, Oct. 26; and Logan, Log-an, Oct. 27.
