Pioneer Road Building Vas Tough In commemoration of its 50th anniversary as one of the leading and oldest trade associations in Utah, the Associated As-sociated General Contractors,-Utah, Contractors,-Utah, Chapter, has published an 84 page book, "Building a Better Utah for 50 Years." The new book recalls the early day road construction through old photographs, a digest of the association's early ' history and personal recollections of veteran contractors con-tractors and early-day person- alities in construction. The book also contains a series of photos, shown here, which depict the conditions and early day construction of the highway in the Valley City area, five miles south of Crescent Junction. The old building shown is the old Valley City Hotel long since gone from the scene and a number of men in the photos are presumed to, be old Moab residents. The construction con-struction job took place in 1918, when a six-horse grader was really run by six horses. The photo series appeared under the heading, "Wanted: Road Construction," a slight understatement of the apparent appar-ent facts. |
