Show optimistic Indicators ' A statement by G. M. Wallace, executive officer of Keystone Wallace Resources last week in a letter to the local officers brings to light some of he guarded opti- ! mism now being' expressed by the mining community and other businesses in the area. Mr. Wallace said that 1 "Keystone Wallace looks forward to being a continued part of the devloprnent of Moab Valley." This statement state-ment in light of the record production at the facility is : good reason for residents to begn to hope that the mining min-ing industry in Southeastern Utah is beginning to take I an upturn, after a low for over a year. Other factors which have recently come to light show I an optimism about things to come as well. The starting up of Texas Gulf Sulphur's operations is, after a long wait, welcome news. Operations at Rio Algom Corporation's Corpor-ation's Lisbon Valley Mine and Mill site also show- great promise as they move ahead on schedule after some de-lavs. de-lavs. Wc like to see signs of upturn in the area's econ-i econ-i omy and hope that they continue. ; j Expansion plans at City Market in Moab also point to I a general feeling that mnybe things are going to get bet-j bet-j ' tcr than they have been in the past few years. New businesses bus-inesses opening and new people moving to town also show that Moab has not really faded away. Wc like to see these sifms and we feel that the bus-inncss bus-inncss cconomv is now beginning to feel better about moving forward with their plans. Moab is not going to allow itself to be passed by without giving a good fidht. Just when things seem to be getting everyone down, something new comes about and gives us another little push. It's all those pushes that are someday going " to make this town one which will not only have a stable i and balanced cconomv but which will make it one which I knows what to do with the economic benefits once they j! arc then.. |
