Show Final Plans Drawn For Big Moab Celebration Final plans are being made for the annual Canyonlands Can-yonlands Rodeo to be held Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9, at the Grand County Rodeo arena. Stock producer for the event will beD.A.(Swan-ney) beD.A.(Swan-ney) Kerby of Salt Lake City. Mr. Kerby also produces the Salt Palace Rodeo later in the year along with many other rodeos throughout the in-termountain in-termountain area. Some stock for the performances perform-ances have been national prizewinners in the rodeo circuit. The performances are set to begin at 8 p.m. each night and will feature fea-ture calf roping, bull riding, bareback riding, steer wrestling and amateur am-ateur bareback riding. In addition to the regular regu-lar rodeo events, there will be specialty acts for the performances. The Silver Spurs, a women's riding group from Salt Lake City are slated to be in town for the two shows as well. Tickets for the events will be available at the rodeo or may be purchased pur-chased in advance at Miller's Mil-ler's Supermarket. Other activities coming com-ing up for rodeo week include a kangaroo court for all residents' who do not dress western during the week. Beginning on Sunday and continuing through the week will be a western art show at the Jail House Gallery. In charge of this committee com-mittee are Russ Donog-hue. Donog-hue. Arlene Ruggeri and Judy Carmichael. The beginning of the Butch Cassidy Days trail ride will be in Telluride. Colo, on June 4, with the staging of a mock holdup. hold-up. This will be followed follow-ed by a western barbe-que barbe-que at 5:30 p.m. The riders ri-ders will begin their trip to Moab on Tuesday morning mor-ning and are to arrive in Moab on Saturday in time for another barbeque to be held at Lions Park. Beginning on Wednesday Wednes-day at Star Hall, members mem-bers of the Moab Community Com-munity Players will present pre-sent a' melodrama. The show begins at 8 p.m. and will be held Wednesday Wed-nesday and Thursday. Director for the presentation presen-tation is Jim Wanielista. On Friday the big rodeo ro-deo parade will get residents resi-dents ready for the rodeo ro-deo activities. The parade pa-rade is to begin at 6 p.m. and will includ entries from Arizona, Colorado and Utah. Trophies Tro-phies will be given for outstanding entries. Grand Marshall for the parade is to be Charlie Steen. Following the rodeo Friday night will be a "Sundance Swing" in front of the courthouse. This dance is geared primarily to the youth of the community. Saturday's activities will begin with skits and shootouts throughout the day. At about 6 p.m., a chuckwagon barbeque will be held at Lions Park for residents of the community and participants par-ticipants in th Butch Cassidy Trail .ie. Riders Ri-ders will er ee and general admission is S2.50 foradultsand$1.25 for children under 12. Again the rodeo begins at 8 p.m. and will be followed by a country-western country-western dance, "Butch's Breakdown". Admission to both dances is by donation dona-tion to the big oak barrel. Information concerning concern-ing the rodeo can be obtained ob-tained from any rodeo committee member and persons intering the events may register at the Grand County Courthouse. |
