Show First of Liquor Cases Bound to District Court Two preliminary hearings for violations of Utah's liquor li-quor laws were heard before City Judge Donald Crist this past week. The two hearings involved Maxine and Jerry Day who were both charged in ihe arrests made by State Liquor Li-quor Enforcement Agency officers during the last week cf September. Maxine Day was charged with illegal sale and storage of alcohol, and Jerry Lay was charged wilh illegal sale of alcohol. These two were bound over to Seventh Sev-enth Judicial Dis'.rict Court where they will appear on Nov. 12. Others who were charged with liquor violations viola-tions at the same time as the Days, will begin their preliminary hrarings on Oct. 29, with the cases expected to take the remainder of the week. Cn Monday. Oct. 27, the court heard four cases of DWI and imposed sentences cn three cf the four. The first of the cases involve 1 Jsnct Record who pled guilty guil-ty to the charge of DWI and was sentenced to 53 days in the County Jail and a fine of $250. The jail sentence was suspended upon pav-nii pav-nii nt cf the fine. Jose Torres was also fined 259 and sentenced to 59 days in jail afler pleading ;uii'.y to DWI. His jail sen- tence was also suspended. The third case on the docket do-cket Monday found Bill Chapman pleading guilty to DWI. He was sentenced to 40 days in jail and was ordered or-dered to pay a fine of $230. The jail sentence was sus pended and a charge of driving driv-ing without a driver's license lic-ense was dropped when he presented a license to Ihe court. Monday's final case resulted re-sulted hi a trial date ol Nov. 10 set for Allen Eugene Schaeffer who pled not guilty guil-ty to the charge of DWI. On Tuesday, Judge Crist again heard a case of DWI but the hearing was continued contin-ued when Beverly Miller requested re-quested time to consult council. coun-cil. The hearing will be continued on Friday, October Octob-er 31. |
