Show encouraging planning ahead One cf the most encouraging happenings in the early life of the Southeastern Utah Center for Continuing Education was the visit this week of Utah State University President, Glen L. Tag'gert, along with other top officials of the University. Uni-versity. They indicated, without any doubt, that they were pleased with the beginnings of the program were willing to accept ac-cept their share of the responsibility for low registration during dur-ing the first semester were planning big things for the future, even beyond the current biennium and were planning plan-ning on shaping a higher education program in this area which would compliment this corner of Utah and be a substantive sub-stantive aid to its economy, by virtue of training persons to fill needed professions and occupations here. President Taggert admitted that the lateness in hiring a director for the program resulted in a lack of planning, hence lack of registration for the first session. He also attributed at-tributed this late start to a reported lack of enthusiasm on the part of some department heads at Utah State, who are short handed and needed more time to schedule programs in our Continuing Educaion Center. He recognized the importance of the program, however, and promised that with community cooperation on this end. his . school would do what needed to be done to make this Center as successful as possible. President Taggert's visit to Moab; the manner in which he kept on the go while here for a day, attempting to talk to as many people as humanly possible, is to be highly commended. com-mended. If the community can match the apparent enthusiasm enthus-iasm of the University officials; and if the community ;s made to believe it has a definite role in shaping the program, pro-gram, then we feel the Center has a valuable and growing future. |
