Show Fluoride Opponents Win By Wide Margin of Vote Moab opponents of the City's move to place fluoride in the drinking water, won their point with the sound defeat of the proposal in Tuesday's election. Opponents first made their objections known concerning ing the addition of fluorides to the water when the measure mea-sure was passed by members mem-bers of the City Council this past summer. Since that time the opposition has worked steadily, first on actually ac-tually getting the measure eligible for a vote and finally fin-ally convincing voters of the community that their point of view should prevail. As part of their campaign the opponents had Dr. Nephi Kezerian, an orthopedic surgeon sur-geon from Provo, come to Moab to voice his views on the issue at hand. They also al-so conducted extensive campaigns, cam-paigns, both on radio and television, as well as in the newspaper. Although proponents of the measure attempted to stop the efforts of the opponents by bringing their own representative rep-resentative to speak here before all interested parties, they were unable to bring out too great a following and the measure was defeated 841 to 496. A spokesman for the citizen's citi-zen's committee said Wednes-. Wednes-. day that his organization would remain active as a watchdog committee on future fu-ture actions of the Council. |
