Show pws9 mimh siousO Msiwks Wnmcsirs With the announcement of the results of Tuesday's election, el-ection, revealed late Tuesday Tues-day night, there was an almost al-most visible sigh of relief felt throughout the town. The campaign, which was described by many as one of the most controversial in Moab in a long time, was ended wiith only one candidate candi-date winning a majority of the votes cast. Just under 1400 of Moab's 2004 registered register-ed voters went to the polls to cast their ballot for the men of their choice in the hotly contested races. Incumbent Mayor Winford Bunce was the winner in the contest for his chair, even though he was not endorsed by his Citizens Party at convention con-vention time. Bunce polled slightly more than 100 votes more than his -nearest competitor, Richard Parsons. In the race for the two Council posts, incumbent incum-bent Jack West was defeated defeat-ed with Earl A. "Bud" Blank-tallying Blank-tallying the most votes with 713. Second in the race was hospital administrator, J. K. Hawks,- with 646. Incumbent Jack West followed closely with 626. A district by district rundown run-down of the voting was as follows: Districts one and two: Bunce, 158; Jacobs, 51; Johnson, 46; Parsons, 91. For Council, Districts one and two voted: Blank, 157; Hawks, 169; Migliori, 150; West, 166. District 3 voted for Bunco, 96; Jacobs, 121; Johnson, 47; Parsons, 105; and in- the Council races, Blank, 211; Hawks, 163; Migliori, 166; and West, 161. In District 4, the pollster, voted 73 for Bunce, 72 for, Jacobs, 34 for Johnson, and, ' 105 for Parsons, with- the Council votes as ' follows: Blank, 162; Hawks, 118; Mi.-' gliori, 108; West, 123. The final District to' come, in cast its ballots with May v- -or Bunce leading with 143, -and Jacobs second with 104 Johnson drew 56 and Pars-one Pars-one 82. In the Council race, Blank totaled 713 votes, Migliori 170 and West 176. Totals for the election gave Bunce 472, Jacobs 348, Johnson John-son 183, and Parsons 367. Blank totaled 7173 votes, Hawks 646, Migliori 594 and West 626. In talking to Mayor Bunce after the election, he staled that he was pleased with, th? men who had won Council seats and stated that he expects ex-pects no problems with the new Council. He said also that he considered, both men very capable. Concerning the defeat of the fluoride issue, Mayor Bunce said he had expected its defeat but had not expected ex-pected that it would be beat by such an overwhelming majority. |
