Show Celebration Worth the Effort, Chamber Feels At the regular Chamber of Commerce meeting Tuesday noon, a large crowd was present as President Dixie Barker welcomed members and guests. It was announced that a Jean Claude Berrier w ill be in Moab July 13-28 from his native France to do a full-length color movie on river and jeep tours in this area. Connie Caouette presented winners of parade floats w ith trophies. First place went to Moab Lumber, with Mickey Davis accepting; second place was awarded to Beta Sigma Phi, with Sue Kehret accepting; accept-ing; and the third place trophy was given to the Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Barker accepted, ac-cepted, and asked permission of the members that this trophy be given to Essie White who drove the buckboard. Red Stewart reported that most merchants had a good return of the ping-pong balls, and felt this promotional will be good to run again. Enthusiastic public reception to the event w as evidenced by the huge crowds downtown Thursday noon to catch the rain of balls. Bobby Rynio, who contributed his airplane and services for the drop, was acknowledged at the meeting, and will receive an official letter of thanks from the Chamber. The shootout re-enactment of a Winnemucca, Nev. bank robbery by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was discussed. dis-cussed. This also received good public attendance, as the Main and Center intersection was completely filled for the exciting event Saturday at 5 p.m. Groundwork laid on the Moab Water Carnival planned for July 26 w as discussed, and this committee was to meet further and report at the next regular meeting. The Softball Tournament June 20-21 was also reported upon, and an invitation issued to all interested to come and watch. |
