Show Testing Begins At Oil Well Near F.lonb Just southwest of Moab, Cities Service Oil Company reports it is beginning tests at its No. 1 Federal-Weaver well after drilling to a total depth of 10,674 feet, notes Carlton Stowe, Utah Geological and Mineral Survey specialist. Production casing has been run and the hole has been perforated in preparation for the tests. This well is located in Spanish Vallety just south of Moab city limits. In other activity around the state, wildcat drilling near the town of Jensen in northeastern Utah is announced this week. BerenCorp., Denver, has filed a notice of intention with the Division of Oil and Gas to drill a projected 2,800 foot test on the Dudley Estate near the northeast edge of the town limits. Closest production to the Beren well is some 3 miles to the west at Ashley Valley field. Reports say oil shows were found by the Odessa Natural Corp. and Southland Royalty on a test at their No. 1 Cedar City well in Iron County, said Mr. Stowe. The operators report only that a test was run from 7,310 to 50 feet and that currently the well is being drilled below 9,980 feet. Projected total depth is 10,500 feet. The remote wildcat, just west of Cedar City, is some 30 miles north of the Virgin field near Hurricane. Latest active rig count conducted by the Independent Association of Drilling Contractors Cont-ractors show Utah has 23 active rotaries working, down considerably from the 42 working rigs at this same time a year ago. However, a week ago, the count was at 21 active rigs. Utah drilling statistics show 99 wells have been drilled in the state thus far this year. Actual completions are up over the 74 completed a year ago at this time. A total of 885,865 feet of hole has been drilled. Of the 99 wells, 30 exploratory wells drilled in Utah this year have accounted for 4 oil wells, 1 gas well and 25 dry holes. |
