Show fAoab Water Carnival Planned for July 26 on Colorado River The Chamber of Commerce is currently planning another new event for Moabites and visitors. On Saturday, July 26, the Moab Water Carnival will be held as a family-fun and strictly no-motors event. On the drawing board are such activities as canoe and rowboat racing, inner tube events, water jousting, flipper races, tug-o-war, water balloon bal-loon fights and an 'anything that can float' race, all in the Colorado River or along its shores. Safety will be the hallmark of the affair, with buoyant water safety equipment required re-quired for anyone entering events. A lower age limit will be established, but there will also be activities for the younger generation on the river banks or possibly at the Moab Swim Center. King Neptune and a.bevy of mermaids are planned for a water float, and fireworks will be displayed after dark to conclude the event. It is currently planned to start river events about 2 p.m., going through the afternoon, taking a break, and going into dusk events and the evening wind-up. wind-up. Help is needed to plan and carry out the first Moab Water Carnival, and anyone interested interes-ted is asked to contact Connie Caouette, 259-6107; Dave Munden, 259-7303; or Mitch Williams, 259-6690. People or i organizations interested in . having food concessions, or j with more ideas for the affair, I are asked to contact these committee members. Most urgently needed are people with senior lifesaving training, volunteers for judges and anchormen, and people with equipment that could be used for the event. Costume design for Neptune and the mermaids is needed, as well as volunteers to sew the costumes, cos-tumes, which will be saved for future use. |
