Show Two Pershings Fired from G. R. Wednesday U.S. Army troops from Europe launched the 5th and 6th rounds in the current series of Pershing missile firings from Green River, Utah early Wednesday morning. The two stage artillery ballistic missiles were programmed pro-grammed to impact on White Sands Missile Range. They were the 304th and 305th rounds to be fired since the Pershing program began 15 years ago at Cape Canaveral, Fla. In the current series, Federal Feder-al Republic of Germany Air Force Units fired four rounds last month. The series is scheduled to end June 25th with the final two rounds to be fired by U.S. Army units. The firing operations are supported by White Sands Missile Range organizations and other Army agencies from Redstone Arsenal, Ala.; Pica-tinny Pica-tinny Arsenal, N.J.; and Ft. Sill, Okla. Army officials announced that the Pershing safety area in Utah, between Green River and Dead Horse Point State Park, were evacuated as of 2 a.m. Wednesday. Also, roadblocks road-blocks were set at 2 a.m. Wednesday on secondary roads leading into the safety area. |
