Show Remote Southern Utah Exploration Scheduled Shell Oil Company will drill a remote southern Utah wildcat well to a depth of at least 8.000 feet, reports Carlton Stowe, minerals specialist, spec-ialist, Utah Geological & Mineral Survey. The Shell well is about 10 miles southeast of the town of Antimony, some 60 miles south and east of Richfield. Shell's well---the No. 1-10 Federal-Harvey, is in section 10, township 32s, range le, in western Garfield County. It is nearly 24 miles southwest of Escalante. The new exploratory test is located near the northwestern edge of the Dixie National Forest in an area known as the Aquarius Plateau region. There has been no previous drilling for oil or gas in the vicinity. Elsewhere this week in Utah, two new wells are scheduled just north of the town of Cisco in Grand County by J. Vukasovich, of Grand Junction. He is to drill the No. 29 and 30 Federal wells to a depth of about 1.500 feet. Deep drilling is underway in the Bridger Lake region of northern Summit County by Phillips Petroleum. The company com-pany is drilling below 15.000 feet at the No. 1 Cook-C. The well is reportedly to be drilled to at least 20,000 feet, or deeper. In Wasatch County's Strawberry Reservoir vicinity, Chevron Oil is drilling below 16,650 feet at the No. 1 Strawberry Unit. Loffland Brothers Bro-thers Drilling Company is to drill to about 17,700 feet for Chevron where tests may then be conducted. Other drilling activity in Utah is widely scattered throughout the state at the present time, notes Mr. Stowe. In Duchesne County, about 10 miles southwest of the town of Duchesne, W. A. Moncrief of Denver, is drilling below 5,100 feet at the No. 14-1 Marshing. The projected total depth has not been disclosed. In Carbon County, just southeast of the town of Castle Dale, Jake Hamon, Denver, is drilling below 1,600 feet at a scheduled 7,500 foot test well. Texaco Inc., is drilling two wells, testing at three others and has locations ready to drill for 12 other wells in the Aneth field area, in southern San Juan County. |
