Meador. Mr. Meador stated that the first day of school will be held on Monday, August 25, und registration should be mostly completed by that date, although a number of students will not register until after school begins, due to family vacations, etc. The schedule for registration registra-tion follows: High School: Seniors will register on Monday, August 18, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Juniors will register on Monday, August 18, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sophomores will register on Tuesday, August 19 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Freshmen will register on Tuesday, August 19, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Middle Schoolt 6th grade will register on i Monday, August 18, from 8 i a.m. to 12 noon. 7th grade will register on Monday, August 18, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. 8th grade will register on Tuesday, August 19, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Elementary Schools: Registration will be held on August 18 or 19 at the school in which their attendance area requires from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Mr. Meador stated that at this point he is at a loss as to how many students to expect in classes this fall. "We finished last school year with a total of 1,745 students in all classes, but this figure could be considerably changed this year, he said. The fact that many new residents of Moab have made contact with the school district relative to registration details; the upcoming move here of a number of new families in connection with the establishment establish-ment of the new District Office of the Bureau of Land Management, will make the first few weeks somewhat trying, until we get all the students settled into their proper slots, he said. One nlus factor is, that major remodeling work in Helen M. Knight lilementary School and in the Middle School on Center Street, will probably be completed and ready for use by the first day of school. At the middle school, all downstairs rooms, including the science room in the basement level, have been completely remodeled. Ceilings Ceil-ings have been rcfinished; paneling and cabinet work installed and the rooms have been carpeted. Although some of the cabinet work has not yet arrived, Mr. Meador stated he had received assurance that the job, being done by Key Construction Co. of Moab under the direction of Architect Archi-tect Jack Ehlcrs, would be primarily finished by August 19. The rooms will also be draped, so that the use of audio-visual materials can occur in individual classrooms. Normal cleaning, painting and repair work done in the summer break is virtually finished, and the buildings are ready for the students, except as mentioned above. Teachers will meet on Thursday and Friday, August 21 and 22, for briefing sessions prior to the opening of schools, and new teachers to the district will be honored on Aug. 22 by the School Board at a special get - acquainted breakfast. |
