Mayhew, was the first recipient re-cipient of the Van Tuyl Fellowship for graduate study in geology at the Colorado School of Mines. The Fellowship was established in honor of pioneer Colorado geologist, Dr. Francis Maurice Van Tuyl. Jack, a graduate student in geology at the College, received a certificate and $600 check. Shown above from left to right are Dean A. Raymond Jordan, Dean of the Graduate School at the College ; John D. Mayhew, recipient ; Dr. Van. Tuyl, the man presenting present-ing the check ; and Dr. Harry Kent, professor of geology ge-ology at the College. Jack is married to the former Carol Curfman of Moab. |
