Show position of irony It seems ironic that the same people who opposed a look at modification of Utah's ridiculous liquor control con-trol laws a year ago 'because the job was too big for the Legisature and should be decided by popular vote," should now oppose efforts being made to place the issue on the ballot this year, "because this is a responsibility respon-sibility we should delegate to the Legislature. It depends on what year it is, apparently. The question of what Should be done in this critical criti-cal and controversial ansa, in the opinion of this writer, is one which very definately should be settled by popular pop-ular vote of all the people of Utah. That is the only method of decision that frees the issue pretty much from the pressures that can be asserted on a small group of legislators, both for or against the issue. We applaud the efforts of those who have taken the time to do the groundwork for an initiative petition peti-tion this spring. It is hoped, at least from this corner, that they obtain the necessary signatures prior to the election to allow Utah's public to decide the issue. |
