Show Late week filings for political polit-ical office have provided races for nearly every spot on the ballot, both local and statewide. state-wide. In addition to filings upstate, up-state, three additional Grand county residents filed their candidacies for the Grand county Commission. Emmit T. Pittman, former Moab business operator and long-time resident, filed for the four-year county Commission Commis-sion post. Mr. Pittman is a Democrat. The next day, Bert Swink, operator of Bert's Auto Parts and chairman of the Grand county Planning Commission, filed his candidacy to oppose Mr. Pittman on the Democratic Democrat-ic Primary ballot. The winner win-ner of that contest will face incumbent Commission chairman, chair-man, Ralph J. Miller, Sr., in November. Vannoy Welch, an employee of Texas Gulf Sulphur Co. and operator of a feed store in Spanish Valley, filed for the two year county Commission post on the Democratic ticket. He will be unopposed in the Primary election, and will meet the winner of a Republican Repub-lican contest involving incumbent in-cumbent Mars Pope and Dennis Den-nis E. Byrd in November. Mr. Welch is vice chairman of the Grand county Safety Council at present. A partial rundown of the political contests of interest to local voters follows: For U. S. Senator: Republican: Wallace F. Ben-sett, Ben-sett, incumbent. Democrat: Milton L. Weil-enmann, Weil-enmann, Dr. J. D. Williams, and Attorney Gen. Phil L. Hansen. For Governor: Democrat: Gov. Calvin L. Rampton, incumbent. Republican: Carl Buehner, Salt Lake businessman; Lamar La-mar Rawlings, Salt Lake county coun-ty auditor; and Mark Anderson, Ander-son, Utah coordinator for the John Birch Society. For Congress (1st Dist.): Republican: Rep. Laurence J. Burton, incumbent. Democrat: Richard J. Mau-ghan, Mau-ghan, Bountiful attorney. State 'Senator (4-county): Republican: Ralph Preece, presently state representative from Uintah and Daggett counties. Democrat: Leland Sowards, former State Senator. Both men are from Vernal, and are seeking the four-county seat now held by Sen. Sam Taylor of Moab, who is not seeking reelection. State Representative: Republican: Edward E. Drake, Moab, presently serving serv-ing as representative of Grand and Emery counties. Democrat: Martin Leamas-ter, Leamas-ter, Huntington, will oppose Mr. Drake in the November election. Neither man has a Primary opponent. District Attorney: Incumbent Boyd Bunnell of Price, a Democrat, is running unopposed. Four Year Commissioner: Republican: Ralph J. Miller, incumbent. Democrat: Emmit T. Pittman Pitt-man and Bert Swink. Two Year Commissioner: Republican: Mars Pope, incumbent; in-cumbent; Dennis E. (Pete) Byrd. Democrat: Vannoy Welch.
