I fv . : POEM PAINTINGS Father Joseph Hogtben, vicar of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Moab, holds copy-of copy-of his book, ''Poem Paintings," just off the press. Published Bock of Poems By Moab Poet Available The Rev. Joseph Hogben, Vicar of St. Franois Episco pal Church, and noted A-merican A-merican poet, has received the first copies of his recently re-cently published book, "Poem Paintings." The attractively bound book contains a collection of 40 of his favorite poems all .with an inspriational origin. The Moab poet uses a writing technique whidh he describes as paint ing wii'Bh words. He often literally places a favorite painting, sketch, or drawing draw-ing on an easel while he translates it into original verse. Such was the setting-for "Halos", in which Father Hogben -writes of the fam ous Gdetto painting "St. Francis and the Birds." "Cfld Countess" was "painted" "paint-ed" after he read a novel by the same name authored1 author-ed1 by . Ann Sedgwick, which so vividly iportray-ejr iportray-ejr the aged French Countess Count-ess he couldn't resist capturing- it in verse. "Houses qf Natchez" was inspired by a series of pictures published pub-lished in the Ladies Home Journal. This poem was first published in "Dixie Guide," ,two years ago; "My Young Strong Man" was inspired by an ad in the Saturday Evening Post" and first .".published -'by ;Ro-tary ;Ro-tary Magazine. "A' Letter to the President", accepted by President Truman, was originally published in the American Legion Magazine 'Jeanne D'Arce", the first of many poems the author has written about his Patron Saint, was firs' published in "Rosary", the Domanicain magazine of the Roman Catholic Church in 1960. That year Father Hogben visited Rome and personally presented a copy to his friend, Miss In-grid In-grid Bergman, as a tribute to her portrayal of the ro.le in the motion picture. He was later a guest .of Miss Bergman and her producer husband, Lars Schmidt, 'oh their J.sland home on Dan-nholmen, Dan-nholmen, off the coast of Sweden.
