Following Well At fended Hearinq Following a public hearing hear-ing Friday evening, (the Grand county School Board approved a record budget of $1,989,588 for the 1967-68 1967-68 school year. The budget represented an increase of $484,478 over last year's allotted $1,50,110 receipts and expenditures. ex-penditures. A delegation of 17 citizens citi-zens attended the budget hearing, and raised various questions regarding allocation allo-cation of funds. The questions ques-tions were all answered apparently to the citizens' satisfaction, according to Board President Ralph Griffin, and the budget was formally adopted by the Board. Several citizens present remained after the hearing hear-ing to discuss the Star Hall renovation project, which has remained an issue is-sue since it was first instigated in-stigated prior to inclusion in a bond issue proposal a year ago. One delegation represented repres-ented the Moab Jaycees, and at their request Don Peterson, of the S & F Building Service of Grand Junction, presented an alternate al-ternate building plan. It was for a Butler-type building buil-ding which could be constructed con-structed for use as an au-cKiitorhSm, au-cKiitorhSm, and later dismantled dis-mantled and moved to another an-other site if no longer needed. Estimated cost of the building was quoted at $46,000. Board President Griffin sfaid the subject of acoustics acous-tics was discussed and Peterson said with proper equipment, any buildjng could be made acoustically adequate. The Board could make -no decision on the matter, Mr. Griffin said, since the contract for the renovation of- Star Hall 4iad already been signed with the Robert R. Child Construction Construc-tion Co. The Lions share of the 1967-68 school budget was allocated for maintenance and operation, an anticipated antici-pated $1,120,580. Capital Outlay and Debt Service expenditures are budgeted at $798,926. Last year's budget for the two categories cate-gories was $1,039,283 and $401,107. Salaries claimed the major portion of the maintenance main-tenance and operation budget., bud-get., Administration costs were $47,260; instructional instruction-al salaries $673,480, and about $35,000 over last year's budget. The new figure covers improved salary sa-lary rates for the present teaching staff, and additional addi-tional teachers. Other salaries include $15,700 in transportation ; $44,570 for operation of the school plant, and $15,-160 $15,-160 for maintenance. Other . budget figures were: administrative costs, $34,860; instructional expenses, ex-penses, $737,240; health service, $4,500 ; transportation, transpor-tation, $19,800.
