Show Moab Junior Gridders Open Season With Kot Action , by DANNY. PRICE Moab's Junior Football League opened up with two pre-season practice games last Thursday and Friday and both tilts turned turn-ed out to be quite a battle .bet ween the 10-12 year old gridders. The newly formed gridiron grid-iron league, having trouble finding a field to play on, finally settled for the city park putting up a makeshift make-shift football field between ..trees. But the obstacles didn't seem to bother the youngsters young-sters as they not only drove through their opponent's op-ponent's line but around the trees as well. The Red Rock Packers, under the coaching of Jerry Jer-ry Extrurn and Wes Creed edged Dan Price's Demons ,2-0 in the pre-season opener, op-ener, but the Demons came back the following night to shutout Marvin Somnier-yille's Somnier-yille's Vultures, . 12-0. The Packers took . on the Vultures Vul-tures last night in the final fin-al pre-season game. Score of the contest was not a-yailable a-yailable by press time. The three squads open their regular schedule next week as they embark on a 18 game schedule beginning be-ginning Thursday, Oct. .3, with each team playing .12 games during a five week period, enroute to the championship game on .November 8th. The first and second place finishers in the league will battle for the league title. Most of the games have .been scheduled during the ' week ' Monday through Friday with a few slated for "Saturday afernoon. All games are set at the city park with game times slated for 6 p.m. All Junior Football League Lea-gue games will be four quarters at 12 apiece and teams will be able to substitute sub-stitute freely. Regular gridiron grid-iron rules will apply. in Thursday's practice game between the Demons and the Packers the battle almost ended up in a stand off, except for a great defensive de-fensive play that caught the Demons behind - their .own goal line in the second sec-ond period. The Demons were forced to cough up two points as fcoth squads were unable to score in the .second half, giving the Packers the two point mar gin. Quarterback Gene Roberts Rob-erts led the Packer attack, while Quarterback Stan Baker headed the Demon offense. . In the second game Stan Baker ran for 20 yards for one score and halfback Mark Marksbury ran for 25 as the Demons clipped the Vultures. Quarterback Mike Wal-tercheid Wal-tercheid and scrappy halfback half-back Randy Bowen spearheaded spear-headed the Vulture offense Following is the year's Junior Football League grid scherule. |
