Show WILLSHOW HOVLllS WAVED Local Experts Will Give a Demonstration at Firemen's Fire-men's Tournament. USE GUN NOW IN RESCUE WORK Three Days' Convention to Open August 15 in Provo; Program Arranged. For the purpose of educating the firemen fire-men of other departments of Utah In the uee of modern fire fighting devices and life saving apparatus, at the state firemen's fire-men's convention, which will meet In Provo. Auaruet II, 1 and IT. a large delegation del-egation of members of the Salt Lake City fire department will attend the convention conven-tion on the second day. and will give a era apparatua la put. This demonstration, which promisee to be thrilling and spectacular, will be made by the pompier crew, under command of Capt. Andrew Elkrem. The primary function func-tion of the pompier crew la to save Uvea, and the secondary dutv. le to fleht fire. These men take greater risks than thoae In any other branch of tha service, and are expected to place their own Uvea In jeopardy on every occasion whan there la a possibility of effecting a rescue. The members of Captain Eikrem'a crew are Otto Smith. A. A. Carlson. A. N. Foster. E. Q. Hmlth, Peter Odenwalder and E- R. Craig. As all of theae men are located at headquarters. It may be necesanry to make one or more substitutions sub-stitutions In order that the headquarters force may not be too greatly weakened. To Show Now Derlcea. In addition to demonstrations of tha old typea of pompier apparatua, tha pompier pom-pier exhibition crew will demonstrate a number of new life aavlng appliances whlh have been received recently by Chief W. H. Glore, and which have been tried out by the crew In regulation drills at fire headquartera. One of theae appliances Is a Ufa gun. which will be used for the first time In public. The Davie flre escape will also be shown to the public and to the firemen of the state for the flrat time. A long cable ca-ble Is slung over a pulley. Rllngs are attached to each of the free ends of the cable. Tbe sling ts placed under the arma of the person to be reecued. and he la pushed out of the window, or from the roof. A governor In the pulley regulates the descent, and as the victim descends, the free end rises, and la ready for another an-other rescue by the time the first person per-son reaches the ground. This appliance ta especially valuable In saving the lives of persons who have been Injured or are unconscious. The veteran volunteer firemen. Special Spe-cial rates will be made on all the railroads rail-roads running Into Provo. and It Is believed be-lieved that the attendance will be unusually unusu-ally large. Boxing and Wragtling. The program as originally announced Included a water fight between two teams of four men each, the teams to remain not leas than twenty-five feet apart. This feature has been discarded by the committee, com-mittee, and as a substitute, Julius Johnson, John-son, a professional wrestler, will meet all comers: and an exhibition box ins; coir-test coir-test will be put on, with Pete Sullivan ; aa one of the principals. His opponent has not been selected. The convention will be called to order August U at 10 to o'clock In the morning. The opening address will be detlvered bv I W. B. Ward, the local chairman, with headquarters In Provo. The association president. W. W. Wilson, will respond, and will call the convention to order. The roll call will be made, and the committee on credentlala will be appointed. The president wl!l deliver his snnual add reus, and the credentials committee will file Its report.
