Show CHANGE IN HANDLING UNCLAIMED LETTERS WASHINGTON'. Feb. 7. By direction direc-tion of Postmaster-General Cortelyou, a radical change was put into effect last Monday by Assistant Postmaster-General Degraw in the matter of handling unclaimed letters of domestic origin, which are received in the division of dead letters. Several men employees have baen assigned to the dutv of simply sim-ply opening the envelopes without examining ex-amining the contents. Letters thus opened are then given to a force of twenty-five clerks, who select therefrom all written eorrespondenee and enclosures enclo-sures that can be delivered to the senders. |
