Show TO SHOW WE'VE ABOUT 75,000 Legislature to Be AsKed to Order a Census Proving This a City of the First Class. Th Legislature will be petitioned to hara a eenaus of Salt Lake City taken at once. This action was decided on at meeting of the board of governors of the Chamber of Commerce and the Real Ertata association. At the present time Salt Lake City is classed by the postal authorities as a city of the second class, with a population of 53,531, according to the Government census of 1900. Is order to have it classed as a city s the first class it will be necessary for the city to show a population of 75,000. Should ths city show this population, popu-lation, the fifty-seven mail earners now employed in the city would receive a substantial increase in salary and additional carriers would be employed. .That the city will show a population of more than 75,000 there is no question in the minds of those familiar with its growth in the last aix years. The cost X the work would be small in compan-sotf compan-sotf with the benefit that would come ftyp such a move. It is believed that t Vmembers of the Legislature will viey the matter in a favorable light. |
