Tolton, one of the eight lonely Democrats. So smoothly was the move made that only two persons In the entire House were not caught. The two were Representatives Sutton and Thompson. The latter, although a Republican, Re-publican, works hand in hand with Tolton. Tol-ton. The trouble was all over House bill No. 14, by Jackson, which calls for an appropriation of $15,000 for experimenting experiment-ing in the feasibility of securing subterranean sub-terranean waters for culinary purposes and arid farming. A fight was made on the appropriation ana then Kuchler moved tnat it apply only to State lands. Weary of hearing" the discussion. Representative Rep-resentative Tolton moved that the amendment be laid on the table, and the bill went with it. Kuchler Was Frightened. "You have killed the bill," shouted Kuchler. The House passed the bill with the amendments. Claims Bill Referred. ' The report of the passage by the Senate Sen-ate of the bill by Walton, allowing Albert Al-bert L. Eatman; Sheriff of Rich county, $1500 for injuries received while capturing cap-turing an insane -man, was referred to the Committee on Claims. Representative Hone asked for the withdrawal of H. B. No. 76. This was allowed. The bill called for the taxing of mines and the net proceeds. After wrangling over technicalities that should have Deen remedied in the committee-room, and thoroughly puncturing punc-turing House bills No. 45 and 4, by Croft, the House put on third reading .and passed the measures. Changes School Census. H. B. No. 48, which deals with the same subject, was referred back to the Census committee for many verbal amendments offered on the flooor of the House. The bills are for the changing of the time of the school census from July to March and April of each year. Under the present system the census is taken at a time of the year when the majority of school children are away from the city. The House voted down motions to hold a session at 10 o'clock this morning morn-ing and to adjourn until 2 o'clock Monday. Mon-day. It was decided that the House would meet at its usual hour today.
