Show SALT LAKE TO BE A METROPOLIS J. B. Simpson of Ely Says Growth of Nevada Mining Districts Assures Great Future for This City. "I don't believe business men of Salt Lake City realize what the development develop-ment of .the Nevada mining districts means to this city. We look upon Salt Lake as an important business center now, but we expect it to be a great metropolis soon." The speaker was J. B. Simpson, a mining mi-ning man of Ely, Nev. He has recently moved his family to this city that his children may enjoy the superior educational edu-cational advantages offered here. "The growth of Ely is truly msr-elous. msr-elous. " he continued. "Most of lsst jear there were fewer than 1000 people peo-ple there. Todav the population is verv ose to 5000. "Last month 2000 more tailroad tickets were brought into the Vrwn than were purchased by persons leaving there. Between 150 and 200 persons are brought in every day. "And most of the people stay there, too.. Almost without exception they areisen with money, looking for prop- I tif Yn which to invest. i SrfJy gets more gold to the smelters in rne day than Goldfield does in a whole month. Our ore is of lower grade, it is true, but for this reason it will take a world of men to move it, and a large permanent population is assured. Ely will leave Goldfield and Tonopah far behind. Permanent build- 1 ings of a high class are being erected. A $100,000 hotel that's a beauty has I just been opened. "But about the benefit of our growth to alt--Lake City. In the last six months fifty pianos have been purchased pur-chased and brought into town. Nearly half of these were hauled bv wagou from Cherrv Creek, tweDty miles away. Your city should get all this busiucss. " |
