Show suffers from this despicable form of propaganda which is neither argument nor logic. Legislation Legisla-tion based on the emotions aroused by these falsehoods is a disgrace to its sponsors and a handicap to the state. Ever since Germany used propagandist methods meth-ods to further her cause in America, each new movement has offered some special appeal to J the emotions. It is unfortunate that the run of American propaganda has been afflicted with de- ceptions as deep rooted and as vicious as that J used by the Germans. The story, imputing the integrity and habits of the university girls, is of j this type. The false basis of the tale was appare'nt to i its originators, but these people were so busy J doing good for the state that they could not , respect the reputations of our girls. We believe j that men who will resort to these tactics to get J favorable action on bills which they believe to be for the good of the state, cannot distinguish J between good and evil. J Between .the cigarette smoker and the indi-i indi-i vidual who lies about good women to gain a j personal point, we make a choice which is decidedly de-cidedly complimentary to the smoker. Notwithstanding Notwith-standing the fact that this state recognized the libel placed on our girls, the lie is not so apparent J to the residents of other states. Nonresidents cannot know that this story was circulated by a people bent on moral regulation by fair means I or foul. For a selfish purpose in a questionable cause, ' these people damaged the reputation of the Uni- versity of Utah abroad and injured the standing of Utah girls in the nation. The state itself |
