Show VOICE OF THE PEOPLE y Telegram Readers Writer Points Out Dangers In Crosswalk at Church Editor, Telegram: Believing that you ar interested in attempting at-tempting to prevent an accident acci-dent before It happen, rather than trying "to pick up th pieces" afterward, I hop you may agree with me in this matter, mat-ter, and may be able to bring its correction to th notice of th proper authorities. I rfr to th deplorable and dangerou condition of th pedestrian crosswalk at the Intersection In-tersection of C street and South Temple. Being a member of th First Presbyterian church, it i necessary for m and for other member of my family, to oa th crosswalk often to attend at-tend church and other activities held in th church building. My children must use the crosswalk in going to and from car-parkings and bus atop to get to the church, when attending scouting and other similar occasion, oc-casion, besides "church" one. Th crosswalk for pedestrian Is plainly and visibly marked In yellow paint, and there ar signs warning motorist to watch out for the pedestrians, also. But, sad to say, most motorist mo-torist an either too much In a hurry, or are very lacking in courtesy, to make any effort to top for crossing walkers. In fact, not only members of my family, but I've noticed that many other walker have almost al-most "token their live In their own hands," trying to . cross, at almost any hour of day or night Or, on th other hand, if one doe not car to risk being run over, he must wait a long period until there is a clearing in the oncoming traffic In order to cross. I realise that the city and th police traffic section will not ' desire to install lights at this spot, inc there ar other established es-tablished lights so near, but I do think something should be don to afford better protection for the pedestrians. There 1 an officer on duty at thi crossing during Sunday morning church services, and he handle hi job well and efficiently. It la at the other times, Juat.aa dangerous for pedestrians, of which .1 speak. K. N. E. |
