Show Opponents, Proponents Discuss Bill . I For Court Control of Failed Banks Opponent and proponent of the Pax ton bill to restore Jurisdiction over Insolvent banks to district courts were heard by the house banking committee at a public hearing in tha capitol Thursday. G. A. Marr, Salt Lake attorney, opposing op-posing the bill, declared liquidation of defunct banks by courts is expensive expen-sive and tedious. He aaid the Utah bank commission has not been given adequate opportunity to function because be-cause of "political havoc" and urged it be 'continued. Mr. Marr advocated that expenses for liquidating closed banks be approved ap-proved before liquidation rather than 'after, as at present, to reduce the 'costs. Attorney J. D. Skeen criticised the present law on tha grounds it I ambiguous, am-biguous, divides power and is "utterly "utter-ly unworkable." He advocated adoption adop-tion of the Paxton measure. The women's legislative council announced an-nounced Thursday it had approved the resolution for a constitutional amendment permitting citiea of the first and second class to unite with county educstional units. The council also urged that the stale retain control of Junior colleges and that the supervision of the University Uni-versity of Utah and tha Utah State Agricultural college remain- as the tare. The Hunt bill for advertising stste deficits waa approved unanimously I by th council. |
