Show Coast Pioneer Dead. SEATTLE. Wash., Jan. 19.-Henry G. Thornton, former Chief of Police ' of Seattle and for nearly half a century a resident of the Pacific coast States, died last night of acute Bright'a disease, Mr ihornton was born In Portsmouth, O. in 1S28 and crossed the plains in 1S53, with bis wife, settling at Portland, where he operated a ferry and built one of the first reservoirs. He engaged In railroad contract con-tract work at San Francisco in 1S6I. and came to this city In 1872. He is survived by a wife and five children, one of whom is Mrs. W. G. Beck of Portland. |
