Show MAGKAY SOUGHT LONG -TO HAKE HIS AMENDS Peter Curley, Employee Whom He Injured, Turns Up After Bonanza King's Death. . : : " SEATTLE, Wash., Jan. . Peter Curley, a white-haired Id miner for whom the late millionaire, John W. Mackay, searched by letter and other means more than twenty years, has turned up in this cliy. Curley tells an Interesting tale of how Mr. Mackay, on being- convinced that he had done his employee an injustice, sought to make amends. Thirty years ago Mr. Curley was employed as an engineer in one of the Mackay mines near Virginia City. He was summoned to San Francisco, to see bis sister, who was dying. ; For some reason Curley secured work in San Francisco and remained there. In the meantime some rascality had been attempted at Virginia City which threatened Mr. Mackay'a prosperity. Though the accusation that Curley had injured Mackay was made, it could not.be -established 'as a fact. Further Investigation satisfied Mr. Mackay that he had been accusing an Innocent man, and he began his search for Curley. "I am going; to write Mrs. Mackay or Clarence about the whole affair," Curley Cur-ley said, "and I'm only too sorry that I did not get to see Mr. Mackay before be passed away." |
