Elklns of West Virginia is rapidly takin a place among the multimillionaires ot the country. Persons close to him and in authority to speak say that he has made between $7,000,000 and $8,000,000 this year. He would have made still more had it not been for the Baltimore & Ohio railroad, which, being the main outlet of his vast West Virginia ore interests, in-terests, refused to furnish cars. Senators Elklns was the foremost figure fig-ure in the sale of the West Virginia Central to the Wabash for about $18,-000,000. $18,-000,000. , He practically controlled the road for some months. He has been in- . vesting in .territory in all sections of West. Virginia, - and his holdings are now more extensive, than the whole West Virginia central territory. There is hardly a county In the State in which he has. not investments. He is interested -in nearly every new bank in West Virginia, and a few months ago started the Security Trust company at Wheeling; He also has extensive-interests in the Wheeling Traction company and the West Virginia Bridge and Construction Con-struction com pany, at Morganto wn. He recently bought the - Morgantown . & Klngwood railroad for $265,000. and he is now projecting other roads to be built out of his own purse, to reach his extensive ex-tensive coal tracjjj.
