With the appointment of committees this afternoon, the legislative machinery ma-chinery of the State is in order for s feed y operation, and indications are that there will be no cessation of the flow of bills until the time limit of sixty days expires. Mr, Bamberger's Joke. " ; The ten-minute session' of the Senate yesterday, of which time eight and one-half one-half minutes were spent ia calling the roll, reading the minutes and prayer, afforded af-forded Senator Bamberger apportunlty for a neat little Joke, much appreciated by those who heard it. As the Senators arose after the motion to adjourn prevailed. pre-vailed. Senator Bamberger observed that it was fifteen minutes after 2 o'clock, and the President's gavel had fallen at Just 2:05. ' . ' Senate bill No. 7, to be introduced by the Senator from Box Elder, was sent to the clerk yesterday, which is intended intend-ed to increase the size of the House. It will change the basis of apportionment so that three members will be added to Salt Lake county and one each to Box Elder, Summit. Juab and Sanpete. Senator Lewis of Beaver has Senate bill No. 8. regulating the storage of powder In mines and fixing the penalty for violation of the provisions at not less than $100 nor more than $250. Senate bill No. is also to be Introduced Intro-duced by Senator Lewis. This measure provides for an appropriation of $50,000 to be expended for an additional building build-ing and equipment to the branch State normal school at Cedar City. . Session of the House. : , t ' The session of the House lasted until 3:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon, the greater portion of the time being occupied occu-pied by the report of the Committee on Rules. , , Representative Chlpman Introduced House bill No. 4, which provides that no officer of the United States, State, county, coun-ty, city or town getting a regular salary sal-ary shall draw witness fees in a criminal crim-inal prosecution. House bill No. 5, to regulate liquor traffic near laborers' camps, was introduced intro-duced by Representative Mrs. Coulter, and waa referred to the Committee on Manufactures and Commerce. House bill No. 6. by Molyneux. An act to amend section 1818 relating to free text-books for. schools.. Substitutes "State" for "County" Superintendent as the officer furnishing the books. It went to the Committee on Judiciary. Bills No. 7, by Brink, and No. 8. by Barrett, relate to the appointment of an inspector for metalliferous mines. Both were referred to the Committee on Mines and Mining. . In the Senate this afternoon Johnson introduced a bill prohibiting the payment pay-ment of mileage to members who travel on passes. The Senate adjourned us til Monday. In the House the officers were sworn in and routine business was taken up. |
