The war promises to entangle both houses of the Legislature and every educator ed-ucator of prominence In the State will undoubtedly take sides. - The issue of the conflict is that both educational Institutions want to establish estab-lish schools of mines. If this Is done, there will be lack of harmony.in the State's educational system, and probably prob-ably a lack of thoroughness in both schools. ! President Kingsbury of the University Univer-sity declares that a vast sum of money Is required to put such a school on a good basis, and if two are launched, neither will be good. The University is the only proper seat for such a schooL On the other hand, Trustee McAllister of the Agricultural college says that the University is trying to cover the entire educational field, to the exclusion of the Agricultural college. Gov. Wells in his message urges the appropriation of $66,859 for the additional addi-tional needs of a mining school. Including Includ-ing the erection of a metallurgical building,- in connection with . the University Uni-versity of Utah. He makes no recommendation recom-mendation for the erection or support of a school of mines at the Agricultural college. . - As there Is great demand for positions on the educational committees of both branches of the Legislature, the Impression Impres-sion prevails that both institutions are endeavoring to gain control of these committees. |
