" Clerks in the auditor's offices of the Oregon Short Line and the San Pedro, Los Angeles it Salt Lake railroads are worrying over rumors that have been current for some time of the. consolidation consolida-tion of the audlUng departments of the two roads. - - It has been said that at the annual meeting of the Short Line, to be held Monday, it will be decided that -the auditing departments,- at least, of the roads will be consolidated and that, the action wUle confirmed at the annual meeting of the Salt Lake route, which follows. s " These meeUngs have been postponed several times and this has been the cause of many rumors regarding, the two roads. No confirmation of any of them will be given by the officials. "I have heard nothing of any such report," re-port," said a Short Line official Saturday Satur-day morning. "Such talk amounts to nothing, so far as I know. There are always al-ways many rumors current around the offices of a railroad when ah annual meeting is postponed, and I suppose that these reports are caused by that." At the Salt Lake route offices the rumor ru-mor was laughed at. ' "Now. Isn't that foolish." said a Salt Lake route official. "Why I suppose that the next thing people will have all ot the Salt Lake route officials let out and all of. the work taken up by Short Cine. It seems that those on. the outside know more than those who are doing the work." In spite of 1 the denials made by the officials of the two roads, the rumors will not down. One report is that the Short Line will take over the management manage-ment of the road, and that it will be merged completely. This, however, is believed to be entirely without foundation. founda-tion. . |
