The arbi- j tration committee vf the Brick- i layers met the members of the Building Trades Employers' asso- elation last night, but came to no agreement. The" old agreement was null at 7 p. m. The hitch occurred last night when the Bricklayers in- , slated upon 70 cents an hour. This the employers positively refused. the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Join-era, Join-era, and have been getting 2?V4 cents an hour. The carpenters desired to have their pay lifted to the union scale of 50 cents, but the packer, refused on the ground that the men worked the year around. A compromise was reached, giving the carpenters 33 cents, the highest high-est rate paid for similar work in any city of the West. Three Hundred Men Walk Out From Lake Shore Car. Plant at South Chicago. CHICAGO, June, 12. Three hundred men employed in the carshop. of the Chicago, Lake Shore & Eastern railroad have gone on strike, and their action threatens to tie up the South Chicago plant of the company. The men are water-tenders, oilers, car-builders, and l freight-handlers, and want a wage Increase In-crease of 2V4 per cent. The company offered of-fered 1V4 per cent, which .was refused. The 600 carpenter, employed in the packing plant, at the Union Stock Yards have been given a 20 per cent increase in wages. The men are all member, of |
