Show SHORT LINE TRAIN HAS NARROW ESCAPE Damage to Bridge on Snake Eiver Discovered Just in Time to Prevent Wreck. BOISE. Ida June 12. A dredge boat that has for years been anchored In Snake river about a' mile above the Short Line bridge at Nyssa got loose in the high water and ran against the bridge. The huge steel bows plunged through the side of the bridge and obstructed ob-structed the track completely. The cltl-sens cltl-sens of Nyssa discovered the situation In time only to narrowly prevent the night passenger train from going Into the river. The track was cleared by cutting the boat to pieces. It was sunk directly below the bridge, the citlxens of the town rendering all possible as-- as-- Elstance to the section men. The' loss to the dredge company will be about $20,000. The damage to the bridge is only a few hundred dollars. Some of the heavy structural Iron beams of the bridge were sprung from their bearings. |
