Show DIED AS SHE SANG Baby Passed Away While . Mother Was on-t&c j Stage. ;.- MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 7. While singing a lullaby song in the Empire theater Mrs. Lena Bates, a beautiful girl of 19. received re-ceived word that her four-months-old boy had died suddenly at the City hospital. When the performer heard the news she fell to the stage unconscious just as she was about to answer an encore. She could not be revived for several hours. Mrs. Bates was married In Chicago fifteen fif-teen months ago. Her husband, who la also a performer, left her several months ago and his whereabouts is not now known. The young singer came to Minneapolis Minne-apolis with her baby boy a week ago looking look-ing for a position. The four-months-old child was delicate and sickly, and when the young woman appeared at the local theaters, asking for a position, she was advised to place the little one In a hospital hospi-tal until It would overcome an ailment which appeared to be a light form of diphtheria. , . Seeing that opportunities to get a position posi-tion on the stage while the child was In her arms were remote, the young woman wo-man consented to place the little one In the City hospital. Every few hours the young actress made a trip to the City hospital hos-pital to see how the child was progressing progress-ing and was told that the little one had a good chance for recovery. |
