Show ESCAPES BY JUMPING FROM FLYING AUTO OAKLAND, Cal., Xov. 2. In an automobile auto-mobile accident at Piedmont, Mrs. Victor Vic-tor H. Metcalf, wife of the Secretary of Commerce and Labor, narrowly escaped serious injury., She was with Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Bowles and Paymaster Lit-tlefleld. Lit-tlefleld. U. S. N. While on a deep incline the machinery machin-ery gave way and the brakes failed to work. Suddenly the car began to run i backward and, realizing the danger, Mrs. Metcalf Jumped. An Instant later the car backed Into ! the bank and was overturned. Little-field Little-field and Mrs. Bowles were thrown out, while the tetter's hufband was caught beneath the machine, which had to be righted before he could be extricated. Beyond a severe shaking up, none was Injured. |
