Show MAYOR CONSENTS TO PAY SOME WORKERS Mayor Morris made a statement yesterday yester-day that all the employees of the city,. except ex-cept heads of departments, whose salaries are fixed by ordinance, and whoso offices are created by ordinance and their salaries sal-aries fixed in the same manner, would be paid today. This list Includes every man working for the city, save those appointed by department de-partment heads whose confirmation did not receive the Mayor's approval. The pay for those in this class had been held up by the City Auditor. He approved all the payrolls yesterday, except ex-cept in the cases of men appointed by department de-partment heads. Mayor Morris is holding these salaries on the allegation that the men are not legally employed. Former City Auditor A. S. Reiser, now a clerk in the Street department, said that he purposed to institute mandamus proceedings pro-ceedings this week to enforce the payment of his salary. This will be a test case, and will decide whether or not Mayor Morris is mistaken in his stand. |
