Show CHURCHES SHOULD EHTERTAIH VISITORS The missionary union held Its semi-annual convention at Phillips Congregational Congregation-al church yesterday. . There was a large attendance but nothing noth-ing outside of the routine business was transacted with the exception of the passage pas-sage of a motion made by Mrs. G. L. In-gersoll In-gersoll to have a committee appointed to wait on the Ministerial association and confer with that body on the matter of formulating plans for the entertainment of visitors to Salt Lake. In support of the motion she said that the denominational church organisations of Salt Lake are not doing their share In the entertainment of strangers within our gates but are allowing the Mormon church to do art that is being done in that line. Mrs. G. L. IngersolT. Mrs. J. R. Bowdle and Miss Bertha Moore were named on the committee. The convention was called to order by the president, Mrs. R. G.. McNIece. The programme included. a paper, "Hindrance to Missionary Work." by Mrs. W. A. Wright; "Why We Should Do Missionary Work," by Mrs. L. E. Hall; a solo by Mrs. John Rlchelsen; a paper on "Simplicity in the Home and Dress." by Mrs. Gillllan; a paper on "Reasons "Rea-sons for Joining the Auxiliary," by Mrs. C. Veness; a review of "Lux Chrlsti," by Mrs. G. L. Ingersoll; a, song by the Presbyterian Pres-byterian choir; map talks on India by Mrs. J. R. Bowdle. Mrs. George R. Hancock, Han-cock, Mrs. MUllron, Miss Bertha Moore and Miss Anna Baker, and a soprano solo' by Miss Nell Plnkerton. - |
