The plaa to have the Commercial club aid in keeping open the schools of Salt Lake was sanctioned last night at the joint meeting of the club's committees on ways and means and education. The suggestion of Secretary Fisher Harris that the club arrange' for a grand concert to be given in the Tabernacle, Taber-nacle, and use the funds for the benefit of the schools was formally adopted. The purposed . entertainment . was placed entirely in charge of Mr. Harris, . who will soon be ready to announce his -plans. . ' Notice to the Teachers. - The committees then decided to give notice in the schools that the club would do everything In Its power to aid In keeping the schools open, and then formulated the following notice, which the Board of Education is considering at a special meeting, in session this afternoon: af-ternoon: -'. To the Teachers of the Public Schools of Salt Lake City: You are hereby Informed that at a Joint meeting of the committee, on ways and means and on education of the Commercial Commer-cial club, it was the unanimous vote that the schools be kept open fcur or five weeks, as the case may be. In order to complete the year's work and arrange for the usual promotions. To this end the utmost seal should be continued In the raising of funds In the several school divisions, di-visions, and the Board cf Education is respectfully requested to take such official of-ficial action as will give effect to this notice.- It is the purpose of the committees named to lend such aid as they, may In this contlnnatipn, and they a lit the cor-, dial co-opcratron of all the parents and of the general public in the raisin of the necessary funds, of which there is every , prospect of success.
