Show On 3 cf Silt Li!x.'i Milhtom. The Telegram call3 the attention of Salt Lake business men to the following editorial which appeared ap-peared in today's issue of the Gerald: . "We really do not understand why the Bait Lake Real Estate association should continue its campaign among; merchants and business men for a fund of $1000 a month to be expended In advertising Salt Lake. Is It not a fact that our little yellow evening; .contemporary is doing; that right along;? We certainly are led to that Inference through what the Yellow says about itself. It would not surprise us in the least If the Yellow should announce that it had contracted con-tracted for a large amount of space in the next issue of Dr. Greene's interesting heart annual; not for the purpose of advertising itself, oh, no, but merely because of the deep Interest it takes in the welfare of Salt Lake." ' What a mean, spiteful spirit prompted this envious en-vious little story, aimed over The Telegram's shoulders shoul-ders at the public-epirited citizens who are trying to organize and DO SOMETHING FOR SALT LAKE. Perhaps this little statement from Mr. S. V. Shelp, manager of Walker Bros'. Dry Goods Co., which was printed among dozens of other - similar txpressions from leading Salt Lake citizens, aroused the jealousy of the Herald: "THE NEWSPAPER ELEMENT HERE ACTS AND HAS ACTED, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE TELEGRAM, AS THOUGH IT WAS AFRAID THEY MIGHT DO TOO MUCH FOR THE TOWN. THE TELEGRAM'S TELE-GRAM'S IS A PROGRESSIVE MOVEMENT. MORE OF IT WILL BUILD UP THE TOWN." Such petty jealousy and spite as the Herald occasionally" oc-casionally" bubbles over with is ' regrettable. It is ONE OF THE CITY'S MILLSTONES. Let the Herald do something. Let it join with the business men of the city and The Telegram in trying to build np Salt Lake. Let's show a broad, progressive spirit. |
