The base copper bullion output of the valley smelter for the past week fell far below the average, and Indeed Is smaller than it has been for many month. The output of the independent valley smelters amounted to but 797.14S pounds, which was divided as follows: Bingham Con 245.846 Utah Con 802.773 United States ..... 249.024 Total ... ..797.143 To this must be added approximately 200.000 pounds from the American smelter, smel-ter, which brings the total up to 997,143 pounds. SH.VXS CHLORIDE FIND. A specimen of the finest kind of silver sil-ver chlorides has been uncovered in the Scottish Chief of Thayne's canyon, and is attracting much attention among mining mi-ning men. It is stated that twenty inches of this ore has been discovered on the 250-foot level of the mine and the assay returns shows the presence of 744 ; ounces of silver, $9.60 gold and 3 per cent lead per ton. It is the intention of the management to sink on this ore and. as soon as the dip of the ore body has been determined, to crosscut to it from the 500-foot level. When it Is cut on the 600 it will give the company a magnifl- j cent stretch of stoping ground. " The week on the mining exchange tlosed with a fairly satisfactory day, although, al-though, as has been the case all week, the trading was confined to a few stocks. The prices la general were good and the trend of the market seemed higher and stronger than for several days. The striking exception to this was the action of Daly West. Although considerable consid-erable of the stock was sold and the demand de-mand seemed to be strong, it receded rapidly to 110.75, which is the lowest figure for many years. The stock : closed with $10 bid atod $10.90 asked. May Day recovered all the strength it . had lost and opening at S3 cents moved rapidly to Zii cents. and was excep- tionally strong at the close. The sales In May Day were very heavy, although many oft them represented quick proflt- s taking by the professionals. Sliver Shield was a trifle weak, selling at 6 cents and closing with that price bid and 6 cents asked. New York maintained main-tained all the strength which it has gained recently, and sold up to the high price of 9 cents on the open board, after closing with 8V4 cents bid and none offered. Victor Consolidated showed little change, selling at from 34 to 3 cents. The closing quotations follow: Bid. Asked. AJsx ....$ .07V4 $ Alice So .... Boston Consolidated 6.00 .... He reports that the Sheba is now prospecjing for ore on the tunnel level in five different places, and that the Indications are very good. The line of the drifts now being run Is laid through the country rock to avoid the water which drains in the ledge from above and consequently the water in the old workings Is not being reduced to any material extent at present. pres-ent. It will require about fifty feet more work before connections are made with - the old workings and the tunnel level, and when this Is done there Is a large . quantity of ore In the old workings which will become available and which . will be marketed at a fine profit by the ' company. At the Nevada Humboldt the tunnel which is being run to tap the ledge at depth below the open cuts which showed such fine ore is already penetrating mineralized ground, and within a short time will no doubt be in ore. Work has recommenced at the Morrison and the shaft Is being sunk. George Morgan, who went out to start work, will return to this city Sunday afternoon. , WOBK ON" YAMPA SMELTEB IS FBOQEESSDTO SAPIDLY. Recent arrivals from the camp report re-port that the -ore body on the lower tunnel level, which was encountered at ' ' k the Intersection of the fissure and the contact, has now been followed for a distance laterally of forty-six feet and ' that a crosscut has been run seventeen feet without showing any sign that the ore body had come to an end. Some of ' this ore, which is the finest kind of galena, ga-lena, will run over 60 per cent lead, and the entire body will average 25 per cent lead, with values In gold and silver.
